The Importance of Mobile Friendly
Social Media Content
Chances are, you are currently reading this on a 4.7 inch smartphone? There’s a high chance you are. Smartphones are becoming more affordable. With this in mind, I think it’s safe to say that Smart Phones and social media are evolving side by side. Businesses need to make sure that their brand keeps up with them.
We are going to give you some pointers in this blog on how to optimize your social media content for mobile users. We’ll cover why mobile is important, why it’s important to focus on ‘one post, one key’, and outline key considerations when creating content for the growing mobile users.
Facebook users browsing on mobile: 90%
Linkedin users browsing on mobile: 60%
Instagram users browsing on mobile: everyone
Well, except for Social Media Marketers like us
Your average Facebook user scrolls through 75 metres of news-feed per day..

So we know that, thanks to smartphones, Social Media now predominantly reside in the palms of our hands. People are browsing on the go – at traffic lights, in our Ubers, in a queue, and, yes, even on the loo.
So we know where our audience is, but what it is also telling us, is that our audience is scrolling fast! They scroll only to stop at some serious ‘thumb stopping’ content and as a result of this, we , as content creators/business owners have had to do some serious planning when it comes to our content.
We have had to simplify our posts. Enough to ensure we have a clear and concise objective in mind and that our audience knows exactly what it is and what needs to happen next.
How exactly do you optimize social media posts for mobile?
- Have a think about your Media. Your images and videos.
- You need to hone in on your writeup skills. Otherwise known as copywriting skills.
- Linking your content.
Content Media
As marketers, we’re often creating and publishing our content on a desktop. This means though that the stunning design with the text scrawl over the image that you just made on Canva looks amazeballs. Amazeballs on your desktop , but how does it look on a device in the palm of your hand?
With images, make sure that your main focal point is clear by cropping well. If you choose to use text, make sure that it works well with your objective and is clearly visible.
Something that a lot of people may not know is that if you are advertising on videos, most of your audience are listening on the go and on mute. You need to ensure your video tells a visual story and that there are subtitles for any dialogue/speech.
More ideas for optimizing videos:
Try playing around with square videos. It will take up more of your audience’s mobile feed.
You may also want to keep your videos around the 30 second mark. Whilst data speeds have gone up and costs have come down, you may struggle to get higher video completion rates, and this is not good on the algorithm.
Content Writeups or Copywriting
Now that you have a great Media Content, it’s time to think about that first sentence. Those first seven or eight words you choose to use that will grab your reader’s attention. The Image is there to stop the thumbs from scrolling, the writeup is so that they continue to read and click the ‘see more’ button.
Here are our #Toptips for great copywriting:
- Include powerful or emotive words
- Perhaps even pose a question.
- Make it sharp
- Despite your own personal preference, ( this speaks to here ) don’t be afraid to trial the use of emojis. It may be just what you need to complete the capture of your mobile audience.
Content Links
If you’re sharing content that links to your website or landing pages – or maybe even for blogs or any other resources, you will need to be mobile-optimise each and every one of them.
Another very important factor to keep in mind is the load time. Load time is essentially how long it takes for this link to fully load once your audience has clicked on it. Maybe take a look at when you are scrolling on Facebook and note when you start getting annoyed with posts you show a little interest in. Remember, your audience is busy and quickly checking in while they are cooking or on the loo or inbetween trips in the car. There are so many other things that could take their attention away from what they are reading on your content. You have done so well at getting them to stop scrolling and to click on your link, take that little bit of extra time to ensure that the links you add are relevant, looks good and work well.

And there you have it. We have covered all the basics for ensuring that your content is mobile friendly. We would love to hear if there are any other hints and tips you have found to be successful.
